With the death and illegitimate temporary rebirth of Dedicated Servers for PC gamers on MW2.

DICE had promised Dedicated Servers to B:BC2 saying,

Quote :
"Other games use player-hosted or 'peer to peer' solutions, often resulting in a "host with the most" situation; where the player hosting the match has an advantage over other players connected to their game.

Everyone else is dependent on the host's internet connection and if they don't have a great connection neither will you regardless how great of an internet you have. Also, unless server migration is

implemented the game ends when that hosting player quits the game forcing you to find another player-host or start your own
. With dedicated servers everyone gets non-stop action with no connection penalties

based on some other player and their internet
. This makes dedicated servers the best solution for online PC gaming hands down! So rest assured PC players, Battlefield will stay true to its roots offering

dedicated servers to all its players and continue the tradition of the ultimate FPS gaming

experience!"

(Full blog here.)

Bold statement from DICE's Associate Producer Gordan Van Dyke.

Obviously, with the Juggernaut Modern Warfare 2 has become, Bad Company 2 won't be able to break MW2's sales...

But would this alone sway PC gamers to migrate to Bad Company 2 over Modern Warfare 2?

Question!

Ah, I posted on this yesterday but my browser crashed... -_-

Anyhow,

BC2 is directed to those looking for calculated realism, versus MW2 which focuses on FUN.

BC2, like all the Battlefield Series games, incorporates bullet drop and physics to everything. Also, by not selling it for the console, it can support 32vs32.

Console/Dedicated Servers are the way PC games should go...thats how games live.

TF2, it has 97 updates, and many many community maps and mods. It's uses the same VAC system as MW2 to prevent cheaters, but still allows servers (dedicated) to turn it off. Not a single Valve server in sight.
Battlefield 2. All dedicated servers by clans, with multiple mods. Look, DICE just recently released VERSION 2.5 for Battlefield 2. That included like 20 new maps (for up to 64 players) and 2 new countries. No official DICE servers.

Lets look at Warcraft 3. Who plays the original game? Nobody. It's all because of the incredible mod integration built into the game. I'd much rather have an expandable game then a glorious 4 hours of campaign. The community that plays the game aren't dumb, some are smart enough to develop mods. The community is larger than DICE, Valve, Infinity Ward, or all of them combined.

BC2, one of the big selling points is it's ability to destroy buildings completely. That's physics. Effectively, that's also changing terrien. And how does one play with planes, copters, tanks, bikes, cars, etc with rts style commander with 64 people without lag? Efficiency. MW2 uses much more network bandwidth than basically all FPS out there right now. No wonder they set a 8v8 limit.

BC2>MW2

I thought the "calculated realism" was also what focuses the game on fun too? I mean who doesn't love blowing sh!t up? Not even the tactical nuke won't effect the map's terrain in MW2.

True. Calculated realism done well leads to fun gameplay. But it's much harder to achieve than adding different guns and perks.

MW2 shoulda had a bit more physics. Even the wimpy metal plates covering a shack will give you enough cover for AC130.

Dont forget, Battlefield has both missiles and bombs. Missiles come from planes, tanks (kinda...), and AA guns (mounted on ground and cars).

KA...BOOOOM!
